Biomass Solar Hybrid

Combustion or Gasification

Solar energy can provide thermal heat for biomass combustion or gasification.

Direct Injection

Solar generated steam can be directly injected into the main steam header while a boiler is trimmed, therefore maintaining constant power production while fuel is reduced.

  • Biomass can be used to “firm” solar power, effectively replacing thermal storage
  • Solar heat can be used between 140 °C and 550 °C
  • Plant must be located within 20 miles of biomass source, because fuel is low density and expensive to transport (unless pelletized)
